A J2EE certified platform for developing and deploying enterprise Java applications, Web applications, and Portals, JBoss Application Server provides the full range of J2EE 1.4 features as well as extended enterprise services including clustering, caching, and persistence. JBoss application server is licensed under the Lesser GNU Public License (LGPL) and is free to download and use for development and production deployment. JBoss is performance-wise a medium sized application server. It lacks the production environment deployment capabilities of WebLogic and WebSphere and is suitable for smaller applications although it can be customized to suit even larger needs.
